At last the warmer weather is with us but one of the main issues that car enthusiasts face now is dust. In the winter months, the wet road conditions result in minimal dust but now, especially after such a dry springtime, dust is a real problem. Airborne particles in town and dust kicked up on country roads can easily damage paintwork and trim on all types of vehicles.
Most of us think that a fine layer of dust on any surface is just a minor annoyance. Actually, for a beautiful shiny paint finish or for the new matte finishes on high end cars, it is the start of a whole lot of trouble unless it is removed correctly.
Preserving the life of your finish and knowing how to take care of it is both protection to the value of your vehicle and the difference between a simple task and a world of pain. We firmly believe that dust removal from your car before covering it up is a simple step that can make a real difference.
Dust is everywhere right now. It is likely to contain pollen, road grime, pollution and atmospheric fallout as well as good old fashioned dirt. Many of those particles will have sharp and jagged edges if viewed under a microscope. You will need to remove them gently and if the car only has a light coating of dust this can easily be removed by dusting with a specially designed car duster (Our Part Number CCB001) or by washing and rinsing. Our microfibre car duster is formulated to attract the particles away from the paintwork & not to scratch the car. A thorough wash and rinse will do the same job but obviously takes longer. Also be aware that some of the latest paint finishes need different attention than the old fashioned sponge and bucket. Matte finishes for example require a special washing liquid without gloss wax and should only be undertaken with a microfiber wash mitt.
Once you have made sure that your car is super clean, you’ll want to retain that look by fitting a tailored cover. All the fittings and fabrics that we include in your cover are non-abrasive and non scratch so once the car is clean and dry you should fit the cover as soon as practicable. Firstly make sure that your cover is clean and try not to pull it over the ground.
Hopefully you can take it straight out of the storage bag and place it on the bonnet or roof.
Locate the front label and open the cover pulling the front hem towards the front of the car.
Next fit a mirror pocket on one side of the car and then walk round and fit the pocket on the opposite side.
Now that the cover is located correctly on the car, you can walk around and pull all the hems down and under the front and rear bumpers.
Finally fit the underbody strap fasteners and gently tension.
Here are some tips for how you should be caring for your vehicle before covering it.
- Think about where you park your car. If a garage is available, use it. If not, a shady spot out of direct sunlight is best.
- Invest in quality duster or super soft microfibre towel. You will need to ensure there are no sharp edges or metal design features that may cause an issue.
- Be methodical, start at the highest point on the vehicle and work your way down. The dirtiest part of the vehicle is typically the lowest, so leave tyres and bumpers until last as they will deposit the largest dust elements onto your duster or cloth.
- Work in small sections. If you are using a product to help dust or clean, working in small sections will ensure you are not leaving any area untouched or generating excess residue that could be left from cleaning products that are left on the vehicle for too long.
- Once you are satisfied you have dusted your car down, cover the vehicle as soon as possible.
